Bloomsburg University Presents Author Reyna Grande for Big Dog Reading Series
BLOOMSBURG— As part of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Big Dog Reading Series, Reyna Grande, award-winning author of “The Distance Between Us” and “A Dream Called Home,” will be reading on Wednesday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m. via Zoom. https://bloomu.zoom.us/j/91346260663 [bloomu.zoom.us]
“The Distance Between Us” is Grande’s best-selling memoir, where she shares her experience as an undocumented child arriving in the United States from Mexico at the age of nine.
Grande has received an American Book Award, the El Premio Aztlán Literary Award, and the International Latino Book Award. In 2012, she was a finalist for the prestigious National Book Critics Circle Awards, and in 2015 she was honored with a Luis Leal Award for Distinction in Chicano/Latino Literature.
The young reader’s version of “The Distance Between Us” received a 2017 Honor Book Award for the Américas Award for Children’s and Young Adult Literature, a 2016 Eureka! Honor Awards from the California Reading Association and a 2017 International Literacy Association Children’s Book Award.
A graduate of the University of California with a Bachelor of Arts degree in creative writing and film and video, she has also earned a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Antioch University.
Currently, Grande is working on several projects, aiming to be published in the next year. She is also a part of the Macondo Writer’s workshop, where she has served as a faculty member.
Her work has been noted in The New York Times, the Dallas Morning News, CNN, The Lily at The Washington Post, and Buzz Feed. Last March, Grande made an appearance as a special guest on Oprah’s Book Club.
