Bloomsburg University Names Claudia Thrush as VP for Finance and Administration

BLOOMSBURG---Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania President Bashar Hanna has announced the appointment of Claudia Thrush ’92 as the University’s vice president for finance and administration, effective immediately.

Thrush has served as interim chief business affairs officer after the departure of former vice president John Loonan since May 2020. She began working at the university in 1998 as an assistant comptroller and has worked in several different capacities with increasing responsibilities over the last two decades. In her new role, Thrush will continue to oversee budget, finance and business services, facilities management, human resources and labor relations, and the University police department.

“I am excited about this tremendous opportunity and honored to have the confidence of President Hanna and the Council of Trustees,” said Thrush. “As we reimagine and plan for an integrated entity that will shape the future of higher education in the Commonwealth, I look forward to continuing our collaboration with the outstanding leadership team, faculty, and staff, as well as the Council of Trustees and our new partner institutions, Lock Haven and Mansfield. Now, more than ever, we must provide our students with an affordable, high-quality education in a way that not only leads to student success but also long term financial sustainability for our institutions.”

“I am grateful to Claudia for her dedicated service to BU, and particularly for her steady leadership these past six months in her interim role,” said Hanna. “She has guided her divisional colleagues amidst a challenging time for our University and has also been a valued member of our senior leadership team. She will continue to collaborate with our Council of Trustees, the Office of the Chancellor, and our colleagues both on campus and throughout the State System on many critically important initiatives.”

Thrush, who earned her MSBA from Bucknell in 1994, worked for Deloitte and PricewaterhouseCoopers prior to joining BU. She is a CPA and a member of NACUBO (National Association of College and University Business Officers).
