Bloomsburg University and The SAGE Corporation to resume CDL training program

BLOOMSBURG--Bloomsburg University and The SAGE Corporation will resume offering a non-credit, specialized commercial driver’s license (CDL) training program to support the workforce development needs of the region and the commonwealth. CDL training is available for individuals seeking driving opportunities, as well as companies that operate commercial vehicles of all kinds.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program ceased operations at the time the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) converted to all online education for the remainder of the spring semester. Recently, the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Bureau of Postsecondary and Adult Education provided guidance for certain workforce training programs having the ability to resume operations statewide, specific to the healthcare and EMS training areas.

SAGE will begin new CDL classes every Monday. Classroom instruction is being modified with independent study and hands-on truck training labs. The behind-the-wheel training will be held at a one-to-one student to instructor ratio. Sessions will be held Sunday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. with flexible schedules to meet the needs of students and employers. All training meets appropriate safety and sanitation guidelines to comply with the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Financial aid is also available for those who qualify. SAGE also offers job placement assistance to help students find the best jobs in the industry to utilize their CDL license. Anyone that is looking for a career change or advancement should reach out to enroll. In as little as 4-5 weeks, the 150-hour program can be completed so new drivers are on their way to a job in the trucking industry with a highly competitive salary. SAGE is also a state-approved CDL test site, so drivers can test at the same site where they train.
