Bloomsburg University to Host Slavic Soul Party! For Arts-in-Bloom Show

BLOOMSBURG--The musical stylings of Slavic Soul Party! don’t fit neatly into one genre. A blend of East European, Romani, and American music that features fiery Balkan brass, throbbing punk grooves, and jazz chops, Slavic Soul Party! is New York City’s number one brass band for Balkan-Soul-Gypsy-Funk. They will play at Bloomsburg University as part of the Arts in Bloom series on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Carver Hall, Gross Auditorium. The headliner performance is sponsored by the Drs. Ann Wilson and Oliver Larmi Fund.

Tickets are $29 for adults and $15 for BU students and children 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased at the box office located in the lobby of Haas Center for the Arts or online bloomu.edu/arts-in-bloom. Box office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also, Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 570-389-4409 for ticket sales and general information and 570-389-2795 for group sales and special arrangements.

Pumping a strong Balkan brass sound through the filter of life in New York’s outer boroughs, Slavic Soul Party! makes new music out of the unplanned results of immigration, proximity, and globalization. Over the past 15 years, the band has released seven full-length albums and toured in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Europe, Turkey, and Zimbabwe — from palaces to dive bars, Carnegie Hall to Serbian schoolyards, festival stages to prison courtyards. With fans on both sides of the Atlantic, the band’s tunes have been covered by Serbian brass stars, New Orleans funk stalwarts, and legendary street bands.

Arts in Bloom celebrates the value of the arts and enriches lives throughout our community by producing and promoting a robust performing and visual arts program at Bloomsburg University.  The energy of robust university arts programming attracts students to our university and citizens to our town and region, and it unites them.

The series is comprised of high-caliber professional touring headliners as well as performances and exhibits by Bloomsburg University’s resident producers.
