Bloomsburg University to host Zeigler Institute for Professional Development
BLOOMSBURG--- Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania will hold its ninth annual Zeigler Institute for Professional Development (ZIPD) Business Conference on Thursday, Nov. 7, and Friday, Nov. 8. The theme of this year’s conference is “Keeping Business Relevant in Change.”
Since its inception in 2011, nearly 9,000 Zeigler College of Business students have participated in the annual ZIPD Business Conference providing students the opportunity to network, connect, and interact with successful business professionals to provide an invaluable, high-impact learning experience in preparation for future careers.
Delivering the keynote address is Fred Clark, president, and CEO of Clark Associates Companies, on Thursday, Nov.7, at 3:30 p.m. in Carver Hall, Gross Auditorium. His talk is titled “Zero to a Billion in 10 Years by Staying Relevant.” In his address, Clark will talk about how a privately held company, Clark Associates, located in Lancaster, is recognized as one of Central PA's fastest-growing companies as well as “Foodservice Equipment & Supplies” magazine's 2015 Dealer of the Year. Clark will also discuss Clark Associates multiple divisions and branches in distribution, sales, and manufacturing, and how it serves a variety of commercial foodservice customers nationwide.
In addition, ZED Talks (modeled after the TED Talks program) will be held on Nov. 7 from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the Kehr Union Building, room 231 Hideaway. Five successful business professionals, Anthony DiValerio, Linda Brown, Brian Hertzog, Carissa Anthony, and Jonathan Wright, provide inspirational wisdom centered around the 2019 ZIPD Business Conference theme.
Anthony DiValerio ’82, managing director, Morgan Stanley, will talk about “Mindset: Keeping Business Relevant in Change.” Mindset is the number one tool at your disposal in the face of an ever-changing business landscape that is moving at an increasing speed. It is the single most important and controllable asset you have!
Linda Brown ’85, chief administrative officer at Service 1st Federal Credit Union, will discuss “Change: Be Ready and Welcome It!” Find out how humans can choose to embrace or fight against all types of change daily. Look at the benefits of being a continuous learner, building a network, taking risks, experiencing failure, and have fun.
Brian Hertzog, ’11 account executive-large, Gartner, Inc., will talk about “Your Foundation for Navigating Change is NOW.” Keeping business relevant in change starts NOW! Your first job out of college will lay the foundation for your ability to navigate business change in the future and discover some critical things to take into consideration while searching for your first job out of college.
Carissa Anthony ’07, associate marketing manager at the Campbell Soup Company, will discuss “Taking Ownership by Placing Bets.” The audience will experience a professional and personal story to signify the relevance and benefit of embracing change. Take a leap of faith and move from a black and white perspective to the gray zone.
Jonathan Wright ’03, owner of The Wright Agency, will discuss “When to Stick. When to Change.” At the talk, hear how a family business implemented needed change while preserving some core “old school” values and methods to help keep their business alive. Knowing when to stick and when to change helped to retain existing, long-time customers while attracting and increasing new market share.
