BLOOMSBURG— Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania announces its speakers at the school’s 150th Spring Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 11. Daniel Greenstein, D.Phil., chancellor of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education (PASSHE), and Michael Boguski, CPCU, a director and President of Eastern Alliance and its operating subsidiaries, will address the graduates at ceremonies at Robert B. Redman Stadium on the university’s upper campus.
Greenstein will address graduates in the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Education at 10 a.m., while Boguski will address graduates from the College of Science and Technology and the Zeigler College of Business at 3 p.m.
Greenstein was named the fifth chancellor in PASSHE history in September of 2018. He previously led the postsecondary success strategy at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, where he worked with other higher education leaders across the country on initiatives designed to raise educational-attainment levels and to promote economic mobility, especially among low-income and minority students. Before joining the foundation, Greenstein was vice provost for academic planning and programs for the University of California (UC) system. In that role, he oversaw system-wide academic planning and programs, including the University of California Press; the California Digital Library; the UC system’s Education Abroad Program; internship programs in Washington, D.C., and Sacramento; and UC Online Education.
He holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and a doctor of philosophy from the University of Oxford.
Boguski, CPCU, is a director and the President of Eastern Alliance Insurance Group and its operating subsidiaries and has been with Eastern since the inception of the Company in 1997. Michael has served on the Board of Directors of Eastern since 2001. Under his leadership, Eastern has grown from a startup operation in Lancaster, PA with first-year revenue of $3.2 million to a 21 state platform with 10 offices across the country with year-end 2018 revenues of $287.0 million and 275 employees. Eastern went public in 2006 on the NASDAQ exchange, then in 2014 merged with ProAssurance Corporation. Michael’s additional executive roles include director and Chairman of the Board at Eastern Re and Inova® Re, and he serves on the ProAssurance Executive Committee. With over 32 years of insurance industry and leadership experience, Michael was recently promoted to President of ProAssurance’s Specialty P&C division, which is comprised of four operating businesses in the professional and product liability space. This Specialty P&C business operates on a national platform and finished 2018 with revenues of $577.0 million and 450 employees. In June of 2012, he was named to the Board of Directors of the Bloomsburg University Foundation (BUF). He currently serves on the BUF Executive Committee, Capital Campaign Cabinet and is the chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee. Michael has been a member of the Young Presidents Organization since 2004. He is an alumnus from Bloomsburg University, graduating with a B.S. degree in Business Management in 1985.
