BU to host talk on “Communication in the Military Family”

BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania will present the fourth event of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) Explores Human Potential Symposium titled “Communication in the Military Family: Enacting Resilience during Parental Military Deployment and Reintegration,” on Wednesday, March 20, at 6 p.m., in Centennial Hall, room 218.

Skye Chernichky-Karcher, assistant professor of communication studies, will discuss research that suggests certain factors enable military families to be more resilient than others during deployment and reintegration. These factors include the family’s communication environment.

Her talk will examine the challenges that military families, specifically military youth, face when a parent is deployed and the processes that help families be resilient. The presentation will conclude with a group dialogue that connects current research findings with ideas and directions for future research.
