“Backfired: When VW Lied to America” is an award-winning film that tells the inside story of the Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal as it unfolds, inspiring viewers to think about our obligation to fight for clean air.
The story begins at West Virginia University in 2013 when a group of students accidentally discover the defective device. They share their discovery with the California Air Resources Board, who verify the finding and engage with the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Justice to file a suit against VW’s top executives. VW is fined $15 billion, the largest fine in U.S. auto history which is now known as “Dieselgate.”
The environmental series is supported by Bloomsburg University’s Green Campus Initiative encouraging sustainability, and comprehension of local and global environs.
