Professors to talk about “Death with Dignity” movement

BLOOMSBURG— Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) presents BU communication studies professors Paula Hopeck, Ph.D. and Robert Green, Ph.D. in a presentation on the “Death with Dignity Movement” on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. in Centennial Hall, room 218. The talk is part of the ICS BU Explores Human Potential Lecture Series.

Hopeck and Green will discuss their research on how the testimony of Brittany Maynard altered the political discourse on aid-in-dying. Maynard was a 29-year old diagnosed with terminal brain cancer who passed away in 2014 after taking medication to aid in her death. Over the final months of her life, she became the face of the “Death with Dignity” movement. Hopeck and Green will reveal the promises and pitfalls associated with the discursive techniques enacted in this public debate.

The event is free and open to the public.
