BLOOMSBURG— Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania is hosting it’s annual Veterans Week celebration the week of Nov. 5.
On Tuesday, Nov. 6, a memorial balloon release will take place, co-hosted by the BU Strength and Fitness Club. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Student Services Center patio. Students and employees will write a message in memorial of a service member on a balloon and given the option to donate $1 to the Brian D. Fetterman Fund.
“Touch-A-Truck” will be taking place Wednesday, Nov. 7, on the Academic Quad and Student Services Center patio. Military helicopter and vehicles will be on the Academic Quad for the students to explore. The rain date for “Touch-A-Truck,” is Thursday, Nov. 8. Then at 5 p.m. the American Legion Post #273 Veterans Dinner will take place at the Bloomsburg American Legion, located on Juniper Street. This free dinner is open to all military-connected students.
Also, on Thursday, Nov. 8, from 4:30 – 6 p.m. a reception will be held in the Fireside Lounge inside the Kehr Union Building for all BU students, faculty and staff who are veterans or actively serving in the military.
For the fifth year, the BU Student Veterans Association is collecting donations for the National Alliance to end Veterans Suicide. The Veterans Suicide Awareness Walk will be taking place on the Student Services Center patio and Academic Quad on Friday, Nov. 9, at 9 a.m. followed Marine Corps Birthday Celebration at the same location from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For every $100 raised, students will walk one mile around the quad. The goal is to raise $2,200. All students and employees are welcome to participate.
