For Immediate Release: Feb. 5, 2018
BLOOMSBURG — Bloomsburg University is hosting the third annual Bloom Boulder Bash competition on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center for wall climbers of all skill levels.
Registration, which begins at 10 a.m., is $20 for BU students and $25 for the general public. Proceeds will benefit the Sherpa Education Fund, which helps provide funding for education initiatives for children in Nepal.
“We wanted our proceeds to go somewhere where others could truly benefit from it,” said Amanda Klinger, Bloom Boulder Bash competition coordinator.
According to Klinger, the competition will feature different categories based on skill level. Climbers will have four hours to complete five different climbs on the recreation center’s 30-foot indoor climbing wall, each broken down by the level of difficulty.
“This gives more of an opportunity for participants to compete at their skill level and not have to feel intimidated by more advanced climbers,” Klinger said. “Some of our competitors have been climbing for years, while others may have just started recently.”
Bloomsburg University is one of 14 universities in Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education. The university serves approximately 9,600 students, offering comprehensive programs of study in the colleges of Education, Business, Liberal Arts and Science and Technology.
