BLOOMSBURG— After reviewing high school student portfolios, the Department of Art and Art History at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania is holding an exhibition of selected student work in the Haas Gallery of Art. The show opens on Tuesday, May 9, with a closing reception on Wednesday, May 24, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with awards presented to the juried students.
The following students have been selected for this year’s exhibition:
Jessica Derk from Southern Columbia High School; Brooke Kester, Mikayla Wright, Erin Clarke, Madi Vastine, Reece Lopatka and Rainey Oldfield from Danville High School; Jenna Eberly, Mara Marius, Chris Kalich, Brandon Walter, Dan Dan He and Amelia Will from Selinsgrove High School; Megan Snyder from Milton High School; Jenna Thomas, Julia Thomas, Michael Permyashkin and Ja’Amir Brown from Lewisburg High School; and Leanna Canull from Garden Spot High School.
High school juniors and seniors are eligible for the top three awards. The first prize option is $1,300 cash or $1,500 tuition to Bloomsburg University. Second prize option is $800 cash or $1,000 tuition to Bloomsburg University and third prize option is $400 cash or $500 tuition to Bloomsburg University.
Although juniors and seniors are eligible for these awards, the exhibit includes work by sophomores as well. There are also five honorable mention candidates who will receive $50 gift certificates to the University Store.
The portfolio review and the awards program is made possible thanks to the generosity of Drue Magee, who was inspired by First Columbia Bank’s Teen Star Competition.
