Geisinger CEO to deliver keynote lecture

BLOOMSBURG — Dr. David Feinberg, president and chief executive officer for the Geisinger Health System, will present the keynote lecture to open Bloomsburg University’s Health Sciences Symposium and Wellness Fair on Thursday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the Haas Center for the Performing Arts, Mitrani Hall. The 25th annual Health Sciences Symposium and 30th annual Wellness Fair will continue at 9 a.m. Friday, April 22, in the Kehr Union Ballroom and Multipurpose Rooms.

Feinberg, recognized among the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare as well as the 50 Most Influential Physician Executives and Leaders by Modern Healthcare, is triple board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry, adult psychiatry and addiction psychiatry. He has published numerous professional articles and is a leading speaker on topics including the patient experience, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder and adolescent substance abuse.

He became Geisinger’s president and CEO in May 2015 after serving as president of the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) Health System; chief executive officer, UCLA Hospital System; and associate vice chancellor, UCLA Health Sciences in California. He unveiled the health system’s latest and perhaps most radical innovation, ProvenExperience, last November. The program now offers refunds to patients whose expectations weren’t met based on kindness and compassion.

Presentations by BU faculty and community professionals will take place Friday, April 22, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Kehr Union Ballrooms. Topics range from general health-related subjects to research conducted by the Weis Center for Research at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Posters prepared by BU undergraduate and graduate biology and nursing students will be displayed in the Kehr Union Lobby and Multipurpose Rooms beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday.

During the Wellness Fair, representatives from 40 campus organizations and local businesses will provide information on health and health-related products. There will be giveaways and door prizes.

The Health Sciences Symposium and Wellness Fair are sponsored by the Berwick Health and Wellness Fund, Office of the Provost and the Health Sciences Living and Learning Community. All events are free and open to the public.
