GCI screens film with unique view

For Immediate Release: April 3, 2015

BLOOMSBURG — Members of the Bloomsburg community will get a chance to view the environment from the perspective of native peoples, thanks to a film being screened by Bloomsburg University’s Green Campus Initiative.

“Heart of Sky, Heart of Earth” will be shown on Wednesday, April 8, at 7 p.m. at Capitol Restaurant in downtown Bloomsburg. It will be free and open to the public.

The documentary contrasts the way most Americans look at the environment with that of six young Mayans from Guatemala and Chiapas. Their perspective is one in which all life is sacred and connected. The film describes their struggle to maintain their ethnic identity and resist the destruction of their culture in today’s corporate-driven world. “Heart of Sky, Heart of Earth” has won numerous awards and been featured at over 100 film festivals.

Bloomsburg University is one of 14 universities in Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education. The university serves approximately 10,000 students, offering comprehensive programs of study in the colleges of Education, Business, Liberal Arts and Science and Technology.
