BLOOMSBURG — Scholarships will be awarded to three art studio majors entering Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in fall 2014, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor who was inspired by First Columbia Bank’s Teen Star Competition.
According to Jason Godeke, associate professor of art and art history, high school juniors and seniors planning to major in art studio at BU are eligible for awards of $1,500, $1,000 and $500. The scholarship recipients, selected through a portfolio review on Saturday, April 26, and five additional honorable mention candidates also will receive $50 gift certificates for the University Store.
“The donor is impressed by the talented high school vocalists and musicians who perform in the annual Teen Star Competition,” said James Brown, dean of the College of Liberal Arts. “The concept behind these scholarships is to recognize talented young people who excel in the visual arts.”
The scholarship competition will include a juried exhibition from May 9 to 31 in the Moose Exchange, downtown Bloomsburg. A reception and awards ceremony is scheduled for the evening of Friday, May 9.
