BLOOMSBURG – Bloomsburg University will celebrate homecoming Saturday, Oct. 12, with a parade, the annual alumni tent party and other activities, including a Motown vibe for Celebrity Artist Series.
Charles “Nick” Housenick, former university Trustee and member of BU’s Class of 1960, will serve as the parade’s grand marshal. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. in the Bloomsburg Hospital parking lot along Lightstreet Road. It will continue to College Hill and then to Main and Market streets before concluding at Town Park. This year’s theme is “It’s Nashville – Music City, U.S.A. – An All-American Country Homecoming.”
Housenick was appointed to the university’s Council of Trustees in 2005. An account executive with Oppenheimer and Co., Bloomsburg, he has been active in government and community organizations, including serving 12 years on Bloomsburg’s Town Council. Housenick was general manager of the former Housenick Motor Co. and is a past director of the Bloomsburg Rotary Club, Columbia-Montour Chamber of Commerce and the Columbia Alliance for Economic Growth.
Alumni festivities begin with a coffee house from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Fenstemaker Alumni House. The “Husky Country Alumni Tent Party” will be held from noon until 2:30 p.m. on the alumni house lawn. The event will feature a complimentary buffet lunch, pony rides and petting zoo for children, entertainment and beer tasting provided by local sponsors: Marley’s Brewery and Grille, Bloomsburg; Turkey Hill Brewing Co., Lightstreet; and Berwick Brewing Co., Berwick.
The presenting sponsor of the tent party is Liberty Mutual Insurance. There is no cost to attend, but pre-registration is requested at www.bloomualumni.com.
The weekend’s events will open with the Celebrity Artist Series presentation of Motown & More, featuring Souled Out, on Friday, Oct. 11, at 8 p.m. in Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall. Details are available at www.bloomu.edu/CAS.
Saturday’s homecoming highlights include:
- Football, Huskies vs. Millersville University, Danny Hale Field, Redman Stadium, 3:30 p.m.
- Field Hockey vs. Kutztown University, 1 p.m.
- Women’s Soccer vs. California University of Pennsylvania, 5 p.m.
- Men’s Soccer vs. California University of Pennsylvania, 7:30 p.m.
