immediate release: Oct. 4, 2011

BLOOMSBURG — Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania will celebrate the first National Student Day on Thursday, Oct. 6. National Student Day, which was founded by the National Association of College Stores, honors students who make positive contributions to their communities. This year’s theme is Study|Serve|Celebrate.

Students can stop by the University Store and write their own stories of social responsibility on paper paws which will be posted around the store. Students who fill out a paw will receive a 40 percent off coupon, redeemable on Oct. 6 for items at the shop. The store will also offer refreshments as another way of saying thanks for making a difference in our community, according to Beth Christian, manager of the University Store.

In addition to visiting the bookstore, students are encouraged to go online and share their stories on NSD’s website. Users can read and vote on submissions, and 10 students will win prizes ranging from a $3,000 scholarship to an iPad.

Bloomsburg University is one of 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The university serves approximately 9,000 students, offering comprehensive programs of study in the colleges of Education, Business, Liberal Arts and Science and Technology.
