Math and Science Summer Experience open

For immediate release: April 26, 2010

BLOOMSBURG — Registration is open for the fourth annual Math and Science Summer Experience (MSSE) to be held at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania from June 21 to 24, meeting from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The weeklong camp for youths entering sixth, seventh and eighth grades offers an opportunity for students to develop their science and math interests. Each student may explore science and math through classroom presentations, hands-on activities and demonstrations.

Every day, students will spend an hour and a half working in each of three areas: mathematical problem solving, computer programming and exploring emergence. Lunch will be provided as well as snacks between sessions. At the end of the week, parents will be invited to view their child’s accomplishments.

The cost for a single student is $150 for registration received by April 30, and $200 after that date. The two-child rate is $250 for registration received by April 30, and $300 for those received after that date. The fee covers tuition, lunch and snacks, a participant T-shirt and all materials.

Limited scholarships are available. To apply, students must include a letter from their math teacher and an essay outlining how the summer experience will help them.

Bloomsburg University is one of 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The university serves approximately 9,000 students, offering comprehensive programs of study in the colleges of Education, Business, Liberal Arts and Science and Technology.
