BLOOMSBURG — The sounds of jazz, classical, bluegrass, Celtic and rock will be featured in Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s next Celebrity Artist Series program, The Georgia Guitar Quartet, Saturday, March 27, at 8 p.m., in Carver Hall’s Kenneth S. Gross Auditorium.
The Georgia Guitar Quartet delivers a high-energy blend of virtuosity and imaginative programming, while taking an adventurous approach to chamber music. Their compositions draw inspiration from music that has influenced them, such as classical masters Bach and Brahms, experimentalists Cage, Bartok and Stockhausen and contemporary rock icons Radiohead and Led Zeppelin.
The quartet, formed in 1996 in Athens, Ga., performs throughout the nation in venues ranging from concert halls to popular music clubs. Recent concert highlights include performances in New York City and Los Angeles and an appearance at the Deer Valley Music Festival in Park City, Utah, where they performed Rodrigo’s “Concerto Andaluz” with the Utah Symphony Orchestra. The Georgia Guitar Quartet has been featured on American Public Media’s “Performance Today” and has released four recordings.
General admission for the BU show is $26. Tickets can be purchased at the Haas Center box office Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday’s box office hours are extended to 7 p.m. when school is in session. On performance days, box office hours are noon to 8 p.m.
