BLOOMSBURG — The Ahn Trio will continue to redefine the art and architecture of chamber music when the sisters return to Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania for a Celebrity Artist Series performance Saturday, March 14, at 8 p.m., in Carver Hall, Kenneth S. Gross Auditorium.
Born in Seoul, Korea, and educated at Juilliard, the sisters -- cellist Maria, pianist Lucia and violinist Angella -- go beyond the standard piano-trio literature and push the boundaries of their craft. Their music thrives on the fusing of work with dancers, pop singers, DJs, painters, installation artists, photographers, lighting designers, ecologists and, even, kite makers.
The Ahns, who first brought their combination of talent and style to BU five years ago, have become audience favorites worldwide. During the past year, they've performed in venues as varied as the Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors Concert in New York City, the London iTunes Festival and the Istanbul (Turkey) Modern Art Museum. They have appeared on CNN, performed at the Czech Grammys and been honored for their collaborative project with the Parsons Dance Company.
The Ahns also were named to People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People" list and featured in Vogue and GQ magazines. The sisters' latest CD, "Lullaby for My Favorite Insomniac," showcases their own compositions.
All programs in the Celebrity Artist Series' 23rd season are being presented in Carver Hall, Kenneth S. Gross Auditorium while Haas Center for the Arts is renovated. Tickets for all events are $20 for adults and $10 for BU students and children under 12. The Ahn Trio's appearance at BU will include a master class-style workshop.
