BU student to assist in U.S. Navy research project

BLOOMSBURG — Steven Bickel of Allentown, a junior electronics engineering technology major at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, recently was awarded a summer research assistantship in the amount of $7,290 to support power electronics research for the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, D.C.

The primary focus of the research project is to design, develop prototype hardware and evaluate performance improvement of silicon-carbide (SiC) power converters to aid the Navy’s modernization effort for future ships and aircrafts. Bickel’s research work will be carried out in BU’s power electronics laboratory under the supervision of Biswajit Ray, professor and coordinator of the electronics engineering technology program.
