BLOOMSBURG — Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s department of music will present a concert featuring the Andy Middleton Group and the BU Jazz Ensemble on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 2:30 p.m. in Carver Hall, Gross Auditorium. A jazz clinic will precede the concert, beginning at 11 a.m. in Carver Hall. Both events are free and open to the public.
The Andy Middleton Group performs original compositions that combine world music influences with hard-swinging New York jazz. Jazz guitarist John Abercrombie describes Middleton as “totally contemporary playing and writing with a real sense of the jazz tradition.” Middleton will discuss jazz improvisation and basic jazz style in the clinic.
The jazz ensemble is directed by Stephen Clickard, professor or music and department chairperson. Clickard holds a bachelor of arts in music performance from San Jose State University, a master of music in instrumental conducting from the University of Northern Colorado and a doctor of musical arts degree in wind conducting from the University Of Washington.
Bloomsburg University is one of 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The university serves approximately 8,000 students, offering comprehensive programs of study in the colleges of Professional Studies, Business, Liberal Arts and Science and Technology.
