‘Utopia’ on display in BU’s Haas Gallery

BLOOMSBURG — The Haas Gallery of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania will open the fall semester with an exhibit by Connie Wolfe Monday, Aug. 27, through Friday, Sept. 21. “Connie Wolfe: Utopia” will be open to the public, free of charge, Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. A closing reception and artist’s lecture will be held on Friday, Sept. 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Wolfe’s work begins with a photograph and notes of something she has seen in nature. She then transforms the image using printmaking and drawing to create an emotional representation of the place being depicted.

Wolfe received a bachelor’s degree in painting concentration from the University of Wisconsin, Parkside, and a master’s degree in printmaking from Ohio University. Her work has been exhibited throughout the country and in China. She is currently an associate lecturer at the University of Wisconsin, Parkside.

The fall semester exhibitions will continue with Art of the Alumni: Juried Studio Art Alumni Exhibition from Monday, Oct. 1, to Friday, Oct. 26. This exhibition will feature works by BU alumni from the studio art program and will be juried by Marilee Salvator, assistant professor of art, and Jason Godeke, assistant professor of art and art history.

The exhibitions continue with ceramics by Karl Beamer, professor of art and art history. Organized by the Museum Exhibition Class, the show will run from Monday, Nov. 5, through Tuesday, Nov. 30. The Studio Art Senior Exit Exhibition will conclude the fall semester exhibits from Monday, Dec. 3, through Saturday. Dec. 15. This exhibit will feature works by studio art majors graduating in December 2007.
