Piano4 offers workshop, performs at BU

Date:  Sept. 14, 2006

BLOOMSBURG— Piano4 will offer a workshop at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania on Friday, Sept. 15, at 5 p.m. in Carver Hall, Kenneth S. Gross Auditorium.

The workshop, which is free and open to the public, will start the 2006-07 season of the Celebrity Artist Series and will feature student pianists, Benjamin Willis of Bloomsburg, a BU junior music major, as well as Justine Karosas from Bloomsburg Christian School, Jordan Musser from Bloomsburg High School and Fanchen Yang from Danville High School.

During the workshop, members of Piano4 will introduce their repertoire, demonstrate their playing and discuss the history of their unique ensemble. The quartet will invite the student artists to play Chopin’s “Polonaise Militaire” with them and rehearse for their public performance Saturday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m., also in Carver Hall, Gross Auditorium.

Piano4 draws its repertoire from original works and more than 400 transcriptions by the First Piano Quartet, heard weekly on NBC Radio in the 1940s and 1950s.

Tickets for the Saturday performance are available at the Hass Center for the Arts Box Office or by calling (570) 389-4409. Limited tickets will be available at Carver Hall on the evening of the event. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for BU students and children.
