Cross Country Teams Sweep Susquehanna
BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University men's and women's cross country teams swept a dual meet with Susquehanna on Saturday. The men posted a 27-28 victory, while the women were winners 23-36.
On the men's side, Misha Litvinov (Drums/Hazleton) took second in a time of 23:49 on the 7k course, while Bobby Furman (Broomall/Marple Newtown) was third in 24:06. In fifth place was Dave Moyer (Boyertown/Boyertown) with a time of 24:30, while Brent Balmer (Lebanon/Cedar Crest) was seventh in 24:42. Jared Arnold (Philadelphia/Carver) rounded out the Huskies who finished in the top 10 with a 10th place finish in 25:06.
On the women's side, Angela Borealo (Easton/Easton) led seven Huskies in the top 10 with a first place finish in a time of 19:22. Katie Meck (Dillsburg/Northern) was third in 20:06, while Victoria Davis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) was fifth in 21:01. Katie Filemyr (Willow Grove/Bishop McDevitt) was sixth in 21:05 with Kaitlyn McShay (Springfield/Cardinal O'Hara) eighth in 21:17. In ninth was Kelsey Harm (Boothwyn/Cardinal O'Hara) in 21:20, while Krista Donsen (Hanover/South Western) was 10th in 21:30.
"I was very happy with the competitiveness of both squads today," said interim coach Bernie Empie. "Obviously, winning on both side was also exciting. Our teams are very young and our newcomers proved today they can make a contribution in our scoring five, as well as provide much needed depth. Both the men's and women's courses are brand new and presented some challenging climbs later in the races. Our men were a little too aggressive early in the race and the hill around 3.5 miles got a few of them. Our women I think learned a little from the men's race. They went out a little easier and were able to handle that last big climb much better. I look forward to getting them on the regional course at Mansfield in two weeks. I hear it is extremely flat and fast. It will be a welcome change for the team."
