Ashley Shuck Leads Huskies at Iona
BLOOMSBURG-- Bloomsburg University cross country senior Ashley Shuck (Milton/Milton) took 27th place at the Iona College Meet of Champions on Saturday.
Shuck finished the 6,000 meter race in a time of 22:57. Also, Shuck was the first non D-I finisher in a field of 224 runners, which featured many D-I schools as well as some of the top D-II schools in the country. Angela Borealo (Easton/Easton) took 85th in a time of 24:11, while Katie Meck (Dillsburg/Northern) was 90th in 24:15.
Senior Shannon Hoffman (Watsontown/Warrior Run) took 103rd in 24:33, while Samantha Rhood (Dowingtown/Dowingtown West) finished 137th in 25:24 with Beth Schwing (Hershey/Lower Dauphin) 143rd in 25:33. Caitlin Heller (Bloomsburg/Nixa) rounded out the team's top seven with a 148th place finish in 25:40.
As a team the Huskies took 14th out of 21 fully scoring teams. The Huskies were the first non D-I school to finish, defeating other D-II schools like Stonehill College, University of District of Columbia, and C.W. Post.
For the Bloomsburg men, Mike Dalton (Lake Hopatcong/Pope John XXIII) was the Huskies top finisher taking 101th in 26:39. Jim Stockley (Elverson/Twin Valley) was 109th in 26:42, while Bob Furman (Broomall/Marple Newton) was 137th in 27:04.
Dave Moyer (Boyertown/Boyertown Area) was 179th in 27:39, while Dan Sietsma (Mahwah/Easter Christian) was 184th in 27:50 with Connor Showalter (Media/Penncrest) right behind in 186th in a time 27:52. Auston Martzall (Myerstown/ELCO) rounded out the team's top seven with a 196th place finish in 28:04.
As a team the Huskies took 20th out of 26 fully scoring teams. The Huskies were the 4th non D-I school to finish.
Bloomsburg returns to action on October 4th when they travel to Slippery Rock for a 10 a.m. race.
