Bloomsburg Women's Tennis Competes at ITA Regionals
BLOOMSBURG -- The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team wrapped up play in the 2006 ITA East Regional championships on Monday.
In the women's "A" draw, both Iida Hokkanen and Emily Murphy advanced to the round of eight before being eliminated. Hokkanen fell 6-2, 6-4 to Lisa Santoro of California (PA) while Murphy lost 6-2, 6-3 against Yumi Matstou, also of Cal.
Katie Hasyn and Torie Cunningham each advanced to the round of 16 before being eliminated in "A" singles play.
In the "B" singles draw, Alison Carney made a run to the semifinals before bowing out to Celise Sesanker of Concordia.
Hokkanen and Hasyn teamed up in the "A" doubles bracket to advance to the semi-finals before falling to the team of Chilingaryan and Matsutou from California. Murphy and Cunningham also advanced to the semis, but fell to the Cal team of Santoro and Reiswick.
In "B" singles, the Bloomsburg's Tracie Nissenbaum and Carney fell in the finals to Van Eysendeyk and Brown from California.
Bloomsburg will host the men's ITA East Regional next weekend beginning on Saturday at 9:00.
