Bloomsburg Women's Swimming Elects Captains for 2009-10 Season
BLOOMSBURG- Bloomsburg University women's swim team has chosen its captains for the 2009-2010 swimming season. Representing the Huskies will be Allie Reed (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove Area), Ashley Carroll (Mohnton/Schuylkill Valley) and Kellie Ayres (Gilbertsville/Boyertown).
Reed, a fifth year senior, returns after shoulder surgery ended her season last year. She is the current team record holder in the 200 freestyle relay and an NCAA Division II All-American. "Having Allie Reed back is a huge plus for us," said Huskies head coach Stu Marvin. "We really missed her speed last year. Allie brings big meet experience and a level of maturity that is invaluable."
Carroll, a senior, primarily a backstroke/IM swimmer, re-invented herself last year with a great performance in the 200 fly. "Ashley's fresh approach to her final season won't be missed by the others," said Marvin. "Her strong personality will keep the group focused on their goals."
Ayres, also a senior, is a solid performer with a great command of all four strokes. She is a three-time PSAC qualifier who is looking to go out on a high note. "Kellie is a quiet leader and will provide the balance needed to manage such a large group," said Marvin. "She is a solid choice as captain."
The Huskies open their season by hosting the Bloomsburg Relays on Saturday, October 10.
