Reed Swims to Two First Place Finishes in Loss to Ship
BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University men's and women's swim teams took to the water of the Nelson Field House pool for the first time in over two months on Friday with the men's team posting a 148-114 win over Shippensburg, while the women's team lost to the Lady Raiders 137.5-121.5.
In the women's meet, senior Allie Reed (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) had two, first-place finishes to lead the Huskies. Reed was first in the 200-free in 1:59.72 and the 100-free 54.94 seconds. Reed also anchored the winning 200-free relay team joining with Jacquie Glaser (Easton/Easton), Nicole Chinnici (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) and Sarah Grawe (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) to take first in 1:40.92.
Also snagging a first place finish was Kelsey Brooker (Stevens/Cocalico) in the 100-fly in a time of 1:01.40. Taking second in the 50-free was Glaser in a time of 25.04, while Grawe was third in the event in 25.43 seconds. In the 200-fly Ashley Carroll (Mohnton/Schuylkill Valley) was second in 2:17.73.
On the men's side, Jeremy Frey (Pipersville/Central Bucks East) had three individual first place finishes for the Huskies taking first in the 200-free, the 200-back and the 200-IM. It is the second time this season that Frey has taken first in those three events in a meet.
In the 200-free Frey had a time of 1:46.29; swam a 1:58.30 in the 200-back and capped his night with a swim of 2:01.98 in the 200-IM.
Taking first in two events was Tim Dorsch (Schwenksville/Souderton Area) who was first in the 100-breast in 1:01.92 and first in the 200-breast in 2:18.56. Also getting first place finishes were Derek Straub (Sinking Spring/Wilson) in the 100-back in 55.07; Ben Safran (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) first in the 200-fly in 2:00.50 and Juan Castaneda (Shamokin/Shamokin Area) first in the 100-fly in 53.10.
Bloomsburg will host Drexel in a men's meet on Jan. 30, while the women host East Stroudsburg on Jan. 30. Start time is set for 1 p.m. at the Nelson Field House pool.
