Bloomsburg Tied Atop East in Women's Soccer PSAC Preseason Poll

BLOOMSBURG-The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team has been picked to finish first in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division, as voted on by the coaches. The Huskies received two first place votes and tied with West Chester, which also received two votes for first.

Shippensburg received two first place votes as well, finishing third in the overall voting, while East Stroudsburg received one and finished fifth. Kutztown (fourth), Millersville (sixth) and Mansfield (seventh) rounded out the rest of the East.

"The parity in the PSAC East is tremendous," head coach Sandy Dickson said of the tie with West Chester. "I think it is fair to say almost all of the PSAC East teams could be tied for the number one preseason slot. It will come down to who gets in done on the field this fall, and we are looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead."

The Huskies are led by Dickson, the reigning PSAC East Coach of the Year, who has a 120-75-23 record in 11 years with Bloomsburg. She has guided the Huskies to seven PSAC playoff berths, one undefeated regular season, two PSAC championships and a berth in four NCAA championship tournaments.

Bloomsburg returns two first team all-conference selections in senior Kelly Modes (Langhorne/Neshaminy) and junior Kristine Preski (Pottstown/Owen J. Roberts). Modes was second on the team in scoring with 17 points while Preski was fourth with 10. Kelsey Stoka (Langhorne/Neshaminy), another junior, was a second team All-PSAC East selection and was third on the team in scoring with 13 points. Sophomore Frances Nicoletti (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield) played every minute in goal last season for the Huskies, compiling a 1.12 goals against average.

The Huskies open up their 2009 season at Sports Stadium on Thursday, August 27 against nationally ranked C.W. Post at 1 p.m.
