Former BU Great Falls Short in Bid for Olympics
LAS VEGAS, NV. -- Former Bloomsburg University wrestling great and assistant wrestling coach Bryce Hasseman took third place at 84 KG at the United States Olympic Wrestling Trials over the weekend. With his third place finish Hasseman earns a spot on the US National team, but failed to land a spot on the US team headed to China for the Olympics.
Hasseman, who was 38-6 for Bloomsburg in 2004-05 and reached the NCAA championships in his only season with the Huskies,was seeded second in the his weight class, reached the semi-finals before losing to Jake Varner, 1-0, 1-0. Hasseman went on to earn a spot on the US National team by beating Tyrel Todd, 1-0, 1-0, in the consolation bracket final.
For Hasseman, who on an EWL and PSAC title in 2004-05, this was his second attempt at making the US Olympic team after qualifying for the trials back in 2004. He has also represented the US in the Canada Cup tournament.
