Huskies Shut Out East Stroudsburg in Final Regular Season Match
BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University wrestling team won its final match of the season with a 35-0 shut out win over East Stroudsburg. The Huskies had a 5-0 undefeated mark at home this season, and the shut out was the second of the year.
125-Fourteenth-ranked Mike Sees (Northumberland/Shikellamy) got the match started with a 16-6 major decision win over East Stroudsburg's Matt Swallow. In the first period, Sees scored three takedowns, taking a 6-3 lead, as Swallow scored on three escapes. After choosing the defensive position, Swallow got an escape, but Sees scored two more takedowns and earned a penalty points for two stalling calls against Swallow. Sees earned his final point on 3:12 of riding time, giving the Huskies an early 4-0 lead.
133-The Huskies took a 7-0 lead with a 9-2 win from Ricky Donald (Millville/Bloomsburg) over the Warriors' Nate Nauroth. Following a Nauroth takedown 17 seconds into the match, Donald got a reversal, to tie the match, 2-2. In the second, Donald turned Nauroth, taking a 5-2 lead on three backpoints. In the final period, Donald scored three more points on an escape and takedown. Donald earned his final point for 2:43 riding time.
141-In his final home match as a Husky, Brad Forbes (Downingtown/Downingtown) got an exciting overtime win over East Stroudsburg's Kyle Ferris. Ferris struck first scoring two points on a takedown at the 1:27 mark in the first period. After a reversal from Forbes and a scoreless second period, the match went into the final three minutes at a 2-2 tie. In the third, Forbes earned a point with nine seconds left in the match to take a 3-2 lead, but the match ended in a tie as Ferris got a point for ridiing time (1:12). With no time remaining on the clock, Forbes scored on a takedown to win the match for the Huskies.
149-George Hickman (Wilmington, NC/Riverside) won by forfeit.
157-Bloomsburg's Aric Fuhrman (Spring Grove/Delone Catholic) got the Huskies' second overtime win over the day with a triple-overtime win over the Warriors' Mark Smith. In the first, Smith took a 2-1 lead. After selecting the defensive position in the second period, Fuhrman tied the match at two with an escape with 1:33 remaining in the period. With the match tied at four after two overtimes, Fuhrman got a takedown with 12 seconds remaining in the third extra period to get the win for Bloomsburg, giving the Huskies a 19-0 lead.
165-With 40 seconds remaining in the match, Frank Beasley (Oden, IL/Centralia) got a reversal to get a 3-2 win over East Stroudsburg's Keith Smith. Following a scoreless first period, Smith got a reversal to take a 2-0 lead. Beasley scored an escape with 1:22 remaining to cut the lead to one. In the final period, Beasley took the defensive position, getting the reversal with 40 seconds left to win the match. With the win, the Huskies took a 22-0 lead in the match.
174-Jim Bertulis (Aston/Garnett Valley) recorded an 8-3 decision over the Warriors' Dave Sullivan in his final home match as a Husky. In the first period, Bertulis scored two takedowns, owning a 4-1 lead going into the second. After a Sullivan escape in the second, Bertulis got an escape of his own in the third, and added another takedown en route to the win. The Huskies led 25-0 after Bertulis' win.
184-Nate Shirk (Middleburg/Middleburg) got an 8-2 win over the Warriors' Dave Williams. With a 2-1 lead after the first period, Shirk scored on an escape in the second taking a 3-1 lead. With seven seconds left in the second period, Shirk got his second takedown of the match. In the third, despite a Williams escape, Shirk scored another takedown and earned a point on riding time (1:14) to get the win for Bloomsburg, giving the Huskies a 28-0 shut out.
197-Jesse Hasseman (Franklin, IN/Franklin) got a 7-3 win over the Warriors' Charles Deighton, giving the Huskies a 31-0 lead in the match. In the first period, Deighton got an early takedown, followed by a Hasseman escape. In the second, Deighton took a 3-0 lead on an escape with 1:24 left in the period. Hasseman tied the match with a takedown with eight seconds remaining, turning Deighton to get three backpoints in the closing seconds of the period. In the third, Hasseman scored his final point on an escape at the 1:40 mark.
HWT-Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/Boyertown) wrapped up the match with a 9-0 major decision win over Adam Karasevicz. Spaid took a 2-0 lead after the first and added an escape and a takedown in the second. In the final period, Spaid got an escape before adding another takedown in the third. His final point came on riding time (1:56).
The Huskies are off for two weeks before traveling to Edinboro for the EWL Championships.
