BLOOMSBURG-Bloomsburg University women's basketball player Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Freshman of the Week for the period ending February 14. This is her seventh freshman of the week award this season.
Wieller averaged 16.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game as the Huskies went 1-2 last week, with a win at East Stroudsburg sandwiched between losses to Cheyney and at West Chester. She scored a game-high 22 points with six rebounds against the Lady Wolves, going 6-of-7 from the foul line in 31 minutes. Against the Warriors, Wieller scored 17 points in just 24 minutes, hitting 2-of-5 three-point attempts and going a perfect 9-of-9 from the charity stripe. She then scored 10 points with a season-high six assists against the Golden Rams, going 2-of-4 from three-point range and 4-of-6 from the foul line.
On the season, Wieller's 16.7 points per game average is tops on the team and sixth in the conference. She is shooting 41.6 percent from three-point range and her 3.2 three's per game is first in the PSAC. With her two three-pointers against West Chester, Wieller tied the single-season school record for three's in a season with 67. Her 41.6 three-point percentage is the second highest in Bloomsburg history and sixth highest in the conference this season.
The Huskies (14-8, 6-4) are currently third in the PSAC East and battling for a spot in the tournament and will host Shippensburg on Wednesday night.
