BLOOMSBURG-Bloomsburg University freshman guard Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East women's basketball Freshman of the Week for period ending January 31. This is Wieller's sixth award so far this season.
Wieller, who missed a game earlier in the week against Shippensburg due to injury, registered 16 points in Bloomsburg's come-from-behind win over Kutztown on Saturday. The freshman guard paced the Huskies to a 46-45 win, scoring seven of her points in the last five minutes of the game, including the game-winning lay-up with just 1.4 seconds left in the contest.
Wieller leads the Huskies (12-6, 4-2) and is fifth in the PSAC in scoring, averaging 16.9 points per game. She is also first in the conference with 58 three-pointers, averaging 3.4 a game and fifth with 44.3 three-point shooting percentage (58-of-131). Wieller is now only nine three-pointers away from Michelle Albanese (2003-04) who holds Bloomsburg's record of 67 three's in a single season.
Wieller and the rest of the Huskies are back on the court this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. hosting Mansfield in its next PSAC match-up.
