Women's Basketball Wins Overtime Thriller
NYACK, NY-Freshman Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) scored 29 points to lead Bloomsburg University to an 80-72 overtime victory over Nyack College in women's non-conference basketball action on Saturday afternoon. This was the Huskies second of two games at the Nyack Invitational.
Bloomsburg (2-1) took a 27-26 lead into halftime on the strength of 10 points from Wieller. Both teams would turn up the offense and trade baskets throughout the second half and would go into the extra period tied at 66. The Huskies then turned up the heat on the defensive end, outscoring the Warriors 14-6 in overtime to take the victory.
Wieller went the entire 45 minutes, hitting on 5-of-12 three-pointers, adding four rebounds and two assists. She combined to score 50 points and shoot 9-of-17 from beyond the arc in the two-game tournament. Fellow freshman Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) added 19 points and seven rebounds while sophomore Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) had 11 points, six rebounds and two steals.
The Huskies will take a week off before playing in their home opener on Monday, November 30 against Wilmington. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
