Huskies Drop First PSAC East Game of the Season
MILLERSVILLE-Despite a game-high 22 points from Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South), the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team dropped its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game of the year by a score of 68-45 to Millersville on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams struggled from the field in the opening minutes of the game with the score just 4-4 through the first six and a half minutes of play. Millersville then got hot and used a 31-9 run over the remainder of the half to lead 34-13 at the break. The Huskies struggled from the floor hitting just 20 percent of its shots, while the Marauders shot over 45 percent in the opening half of play.
Bloomsburg did manage to get back within 16 points at 47-31 midway through the second half after a three-pointer and jumper from Gallagher and a free throw from Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor). But Millersville's 7-0 run pushed the lead back to 23 points and the Huskies got no closer than 17 the rest of the way.
Along with Gallagher's 22 points, Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) scored nine points for the Huskies, while Jenna Craig and Raquel Green both scored 15 points for the Marauders.
The Huskies drop to 11-5, 3-1 in the PSAC East with the loss, while Millersville improves to 14-3, 4-0 in the PSAC East. Bloomsburg will play at Shippensburg on Wednesday starting at 6 p.m.
