Wieller Nets 25 in Huskies Win
BLOOMSBURG-Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to a 64-58 win over Lock Haven on Saturday at the Nelson Field House.
The Huskies held an early five point lead in the game, 11-6, after a three-pointer by Wieller, one of six in the game for the freshman. Lock Haven came back and went up by four points, 17-13, after a three-pointer by Jaime Donovan with 9:27 to go in the opening half.
Then, late in the half with Lock Haven up by one point, 29-28, the Huskies Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) hit a three-pointer sending Bloomsburg to the locker room with the lead, 31-29. Overall the game was tied six time to go with eight lead changes in the opening 20 minutes of play.
Lock Haven started the second half on 13-6 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 42-37 with 15:22 to go in the game. Bloomsburg, though, responded and went on 16-0 run and held the Lady Eagles scoreless for over 10 minutes to go up by 11 points, 53-42. Wieller hit two, three-pointers and Gallagher added five points in the rally for the Huskies. Lock Haven finally snapped its scoring drought with a three-pointer with 4:54 to go in the game.
The Lady Eagles did trim the deficit back to four points with 1:12 to go, but the Huskies connected on seven of eight from the foul line in the final 49 seconds to seal the victory.
Along with Wieller getting 25 points, Gallagher and Christine Sereta (Drums/Hazleton Area) each scored 16 points with Sereta also grabbing 10 rebounds for Bloomsburg, now 7-2 on the season. Lock Haven, 3-4, got 16 points from Sharay Hall and 13 from Peaches Nesmith in the loss.
Bloomsburg will host Edinboro on Sunday at 1 p.m.
