Gallagher Named Player of the Week; Wieller Named Freshman of the Week

BLOOMSBURG-Bloomsburg University women's basketball players Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) and Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) swept the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division weekly awards for the period ending January 3. This was Gallagher's second Player of the Week award and Wieller's fourth Freshman of the Week award this season.

Gallagher, a sophomore guard, helped lead the Huskies to a 2-1 record in their past three games, including wins over PSAC West foes Lock Haven and Edinboro this past weekend. In a 70-57 loss to Goldey-Beacom on December 29, Gallagher scored a career-high 28 points, as Bloomsburg dropped just its second game of the season. She went 11-of-17 from the field, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. She also tied a season-high with nine rebounds in 35 minutes of action. In the Huskies 64-58 win over Lock Haven and 77-72 come-from-behind victory over Edinboro, Gallagher averaged 17.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, adding six assists and five steals. She combined to go 15-of-16 from the foul line over the weekend, including 4-of-4 to ice the game in the final minute against Lock Haven.

Wieller averaged 17.0 points in the Huskies last three games, including a 25-point performance against Lock Haven. She connected on 6-of-12 shots from behind the three-point line against the Bald Eagles, adding six rebounds and two steals in 36 minutes. In the Huskies second half rally against Edinboro, Wieller scored 13 of her 22 points, going 6-of-8 from the foul line and 2-of-5 from three-point range for the game. With the game close in the final minute, she went 4-of-4 from the foul line to preserve a Bloomsburg victory. It marked the sixth time this season Wieller has scored at least 20 points and the 10th straight game she has made a three-pointer. Wieller is fourth in the PSAC in scoring with 19.0 points per game and first in the conference in three-pointers made per game with 4.2.

The Huskies (8-2) return to the court this weekend when they travel to take on PSAC West opponents Gannon on Saturday and Clarion on Sunday. Tip-off for both games is 1:00 p.m.
