Bloomsburg Women's Basketball Falls to Cheyney
BLOOMSBURG-Despite a combined 43 points from Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) and Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team lost to Cheyney 71-61 on Monday game at the Nelson Field House. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday but was postponed due to the heavy snow in southeast Pennsylvnia over the weekend.
Cheyney held the early advantage in the game opening an 18-9 lead with 10:54 to play in the first half after a jumper from Angel Stephens. The Huskies closed to gap to 20-18 by going on a 9-2 run with Wieller netting five points and Gallagher four. Gallagher later tied the game at 26-all after hitting a three-pointer, then a Jen Dervarics layup at the first half buzzer put the Huskies in front for the first time in game at 32-31.
Bloomsburg was red hot to start the second half and used a 10-2 run to grab its biggest lead of the game at 42-33 with 16:16 to go in the game after a layup by Christine Sereta (Drums/Hazleton Area). The Lady Wolves though rallied and went back in front 46-45 with 11:32 left in the game on an Angel Henderson basket. Cheyney extended its lead to nine points, 56-47, with 6:58 to go capping a 23-5 run for the visitors.
After Cheyney pushed its lead to 13 points, the Huskies did manage to trim the deficit back to seven points, 66-59, with 1:59 to go in the game after a pair of free throws from Wieller. But that would be as close as the Huskies would get as Cheyney picked up the 10-point win.
