BLOOMSBURG-Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) capped her first collegiate basketball season by being named the 2008-09 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Freshman of the Year. Gallagher was also named second team All-PSAC East.
Gallagher had a remarkable first season of college basketball earning the PSAC East Freshman of the Week eight times during the course of the year. Overall, she led the Huskies in scoring with 15.4 points per game, was second in rebounding with 5.0 per game. She also led the Huskies in three-point field goals with 60 (second best single-season mark in school history) and in assists with 3.5 per game and in steals with 2.2 per game. Gallagher also topped Bloomsburg and the PSAC in minutes per game with a mark of 37 per game.
During the year Gallagher had six games with 20 or more points, including a career-high 26 at West Chester. She also had her first career double-double at Kutztown when she scored 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. She scored in double figures in 23 of 27 games during the season.
"We are very excited and proud that Kelsey was recognized by the conference," said Gallagher. "Kelsey's desire, commitment and determination has certainly paid off and is reflected with these awards."
The Huskies finished their first year under head coach Bill Cleary with a mark of 11-16.
