BLOOMSBURG-- Bloomsburg University women's basketball standout Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg South/East Stroudsburg) has been named to the Women's Basketball Division II Bulletin's All-Freshman team for the 2008-09 season.
Gallagher's selection to the All-Freshman team comes a few days after being named the winner of Bloomsburg's Joanne McComb Award as the top female underclassman and MVP of women's basketball. The freshman had a remarkable first season of college basketball earning the PSAC Eastern Division Rookie of the Year award. She led the Huskies in scoring with 15.4 points per game, was second in rebounding with 5.0 per game. She also led the Huskies in three-point field goals with 60 (second best single-season mark in school history); in assists with 3.5 per game and in steals with 2.2 per game. Gallagher also topped Bloomsburg and the PSAC in minutes per game with a mark of 37 per game. She was named the PSAC East Freshman of the Week eight times during the course of the year.
During the year Gallagher also had six games with 20 or more points, including a career-high 26 at West Chester. She also had her first career double-double at Kutztown when she scored 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and scored in double figures in 23 of 27 games during the season. She is one of just two freshmen to ever win the Underclassmen of the Year award and the first since 1986.
