PIAA to offer Track and Field classes at BU
BLOOMSBURG - Track and field officiating classes will be presented on Wednesdays, Feb. 10, 17 and 24, at 6:30 p.m. at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania's Nelson Field House. The classes, offered by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) and BU, are free for Bloomsburg University students with a valid I.D. For others, the fee is $30.
The classes are part of the Students of Today Are Referees of Tomorrow (START) program created to encourage current students, particularly student-athletes, to become officials. The START program is sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and other small college conferences in Pennsylvania.
Participants must attend all three sessions. The first session will be a distribution of information packets, rule books and officiating basics. Session two will be a rules education class and a question-and-answer period. A PIAA rules certification test will be given during the third session. Certified participants may have the opportunity to begin officiating locally in PIAA events.
Preregistration is not required, but encouraged. For more information, contact Louise Duffus at email@example.com or (570) 389-4951.
