Track & Field Competes at Bison Invitational
LEWISBURG- The Bloomsburg University men's and women's track & field teams opened their indoor season with a successful showing at the Bison Invitational as two athletes ran Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship qualifying times and others set personal bests.
Freshman Matt Stuck (Milton/Milton) was the men's qualifier, clearing a personal best 13-3 (4.05m) in the pole vault. Sophomore Bobby Furman (Broomall/Marple Newtown) just missed the qualifying standard in the 3000m (8:59), running a time of 8:59.46, a personal best. Another freshman, Kaila Hassler (Schnecksville/Parkland), qualified for both the 60m and 200m on the women's side. She ran times of 8.30 and 27.39, respectively.
Other performances for the men came from freshman James O'Toole and Matthew Caparro (Horsham/Hatboro-Horsham) in the 60m, running times of 7.60 and 7.71, respectively. O'Toole ran a 24.19 in the 200m and Caparro ran a 25.12 while freshman John Barnett (Chester Springs/Downingtown East) ran a 24.71. Freshman Stephen Grib (Vernon, NJ/Vernon) finished the 300m with a time of 41.34 while Abu Siddique (Lansdale/North Penn), Bryan Hennessey and Brandon Reynolds (New Lumberland/Cedar Cliff) competed in the 400m, running times of 53.64, 54.43 and 58.42, respectively. Siddique's finish was a personal best. Freshman Andrew Anderson (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) ran the 500m in a time of 1:08.27 while Barnett ran a 9.41 and Grib ran a 9.49 in the 60m hurdles.
Freshman Ryan Haas had a personal best in the 35lb weight with a throw of 35-4 (10.77m) while freshman Kevin Gunderman had leaps of 20-1 (6.12m) in the long jump and 40-8.25 (12.40m) in the triple jump. In the 4x400 relay, Anderson, Barnett, Siddique and O'Toole ran a time of 3:33.89 and Hennessey, Reynolds, Grib and Caparro finished in 3:50.61.
In addition to Hassler, four other women competed in both the 60m and 200m. Sophomore Valerie Homer (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) ran an 8.50 and a 28.65; junior Erin Hanosek (Macungle/Emmaus) ran an 8.67 and a 28.62; freshman Chelsey Williams (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Catholic) ran an 8.94 and a 29.96; and sophomore Meagan Robinson (North Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) ran a 9.34 and a 31.13.
Freshman Jaime Petrella (Ringwood, NJ/Lakeland Regional) ran a 10.30 in the 60m hurdles while fellow freshman Alilia Anderson ran a 10.90. Petrella and Anderson also competed in the long jump, with leaps of 13-11.25 (4.25m) and 13-3 (4.05m), respectively. The 4x400 relay team of Hassler, Hanosek, Robinson and Williams ran a time of 4:28.33.
The Huskies will compete again on Friday, January 15 at the Kutztown Invitational.
