Women's Tennis Splits First Two Matches in Hawaii

HILO, HI-The Bloomsburg University women's tennis split its first two matches on its spring trip to Hawaii. The Huskies beat Hawaii-Hilo, 5-4, in a match started on Sunday and finished on Monday due to rain. Bloomsburg then lost to Hawaii-Pacific, 9-0, on Monday.

In the match with Hilo, the Huskies trailed 2-1 coming out of doubles play with the team of Andrea Malatesta (Berwick/Berwick) and Laura Sullivan (Dingman's Ferry/Delaware Valley) winning 8-0 at number three doubles.

In singles play, the Huskies got wins from Emily Palko (McMurray/Peters Township) at number three, Sullivan at number four, Kristen Bonito (Bridgewater, MA/Coyle Cassidy) at number five and Malatesta at number six. Bonito's match, which was interrupted by rain, went three sets with the sophomore rallying from a set down to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Against Hawaii-Pacific, Malatesta lost her number six singles match in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 7-0.

Bloomsburg, 4-1, will play Chaminade on Tuesday.
