Dove Advances at PSAC Tennis Championships

SHIPPENSBURG--Bloomsburg University men's tennis player Ricky Dove (Port Matilda/State College) advanced to the semi-finals of the 2009 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Individual and Doubles Tennis championships being held at Shippensburg University.

In addition to Dove, several members other members of the men's and women's team are taking part in the event.

Dove opened the singles event with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Adam Mamik of Mercyhurst, then took out Andrew Sorgi of Millersville, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. He'll face Jonathan Goulet of Kutztown in Sunday's semi-finals. Brandon Cummings (Tallahassee, FL/Chiles) and Seth Rybak (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) also competed and dropped their opening round matches.

In doubles play, Rybak and Cummings dropped their opening match 8-5 to Sorgi and Drew Slocum of Millersville and were eliminated.

For the women, Katie Hasyn (Lansdale/North Penn) opened singles play with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Sabrina Arnaud of Kutztown, but was eliminated by Alina Stanila of Cal, 6-2, 7-5. Emily Palko (McMurray/Peters Township) also picked up a win in her first match, 6-1, 6-2 over Andrea Konas of Millersville, but then dropped her second round match to Axelle Fernandez of Cal, 6-0, 6-2. Alison Carney (Muncy/Warrior Run) also competed and dropped her opening round match. In doubles play, Carney and Hasyn lost their opening round match, 8-6 to a team from East Stroudsburg.

Action will continue tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. at Shippensburg.
