BU Tennis Teams Finish Up ITA Regionals

BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University men's and women's tennis teams finished up the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regionals on Monday.

In doubles play, Fernando Perez (Center Valley/Southern Lehigh) and Ricky Dove (Port Matilda/State College) beat Rafeel Calvacante and Albaro Ochoa from West Virginia Wesleyan (WVW) by a score of 8-3, which moved them to the finals where they faced Jonathan Goulet and Arpit Sharma of Kutztown. The team of Perez and Dove cruised to victory, winning 10-2, which advances them to Alabama for the ITA National Championships.

In men's singles play, Perez, who advanced to the finals where he fell to Marc Rosner of WVW by a score of 7-5, 6-4. Perez got to the finals by playing Dove in the semifinals. Perez came away with that win, 10-5, to make it to the finals.

In women's singles, Katie Hasyn (Lansdale/North Penn) made it to the round of 16, losing by a score of 10-7 to one of the top seeds, Laurie Navarro of California (PA). Emily Palko (McMurray/Peters Township) advanced to the round of 16 where she lost to Chloe Pike of Indiana (PA) by a score of 10-7. Danielle Walsh (Fairfield/St. John Baptist) also made it to the round of 16, dropping to fourth seed Nina Kowalski of California (PA), 10-0.
