Bloomsburg Softball Sweeps Pair on Saturday
SALEM, VA-The Bloomsburg University softball team won both its games on Saturday at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament played in Salem, VA. The Huskies beat Alderson-Broaddus, 6-2, then, blanked West Liberty 11-0 in a five-inning game.
In game one against Alderson-Broaddus freshman Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) went the distance pitching for the Huskies allowing just three hits and striking out four and not allowing a walk.
The offense was led by Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) who went 2-3 with a double, a walk, three runs batted in and a run scored. Jenna Hampton (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) went 2-2 with a double, while Mandy Koch (Dauphin/Central Dauphin) was 2-3 with an RBI.
Leading 1-0 in the top of the second inning, Hampton led off with a double and later came into score on a single by Mandy Leach (Milford/Delaware Valley). After a singles by Casey Massimni (Downingtown/Dowingtown West) and Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport/Jersey Shore), Mauro lined a single scoring two runs.
In game two the Huskies scored runs in four of the five innings played to post the 11-0 win. Shavaun Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) threw a one-hitter for the Huskies striking out nine and not walking a batter.
Lazorka went 3-4 for the Huskies with two RBI, while Massimini was 2-3 and Nikki Shiko (Shamokin/Southern Columbia) 3-4. Freshman Sinea Gallagher (Clarks Summit/Abington Heights) capped the win by hitting a three-run homer in the top of the fifth inning for Bloomsburg.
The Huskies, now 16-2, will play Fairmont State and Charleston on Sunday at 9 and 11 a.m.
