BU Sweeps Weekly PSAC Softball Awards
BLOOMSBURG-- The Bloomsburg University softball team swept both weekly award from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) on Monday. Named the PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Week was Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore), while Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) picked up the PSAC Eastern Division Pitcher of the Week award.
Mauro, a freshman, hit .520 (13-25) in eight games last week with five RBI in helping the Huskies t o a 7-1 record. After starting the week just 2 for 7 through the first three games, Mauro was 11 for 18 over the final five games as the Huskies went 5-0, including a road sweep of division-leading Kutztown and a home sweep of third-place Shippensburg. In the wins over Kutztown, Mauro was 5-8 with three runs scored and two RBI. Her two RBI came in game 2, a 4-1 win for the Huskies. For the season, Mauro is batting .362 with 19 RBI and 20 runs scored.
Fisher went 3-0 last week for the Huskies. In a five-inning win over Goldey-Beacom College, Fisher tossed a no-hitter and struck out four. It was the third no-hitter of her career. She followed that up with an 11-strikeout performance against East Stroudsburg helping BU win 8-0 in six innings. In a win at Kutztown, Fisher allowed just one run and fanned four to help the Huskies to a 4-1 win over the division leaders. For the week she was 3-0 with a 0.39 ERA with 12 hits allowed in 18 innings to go with 19 strikeouts. On the season Fisher is 12-2 with a 1.07 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 84 innings of work.
Bloomsburg is 38-7 on the season and will play at Mansfield on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
