Ashley Yelinek Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

BLOOMSBURG-- Former Bloomsburg University women's swimmer Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood/Southmoreland) has been named to the first team of the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America)/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District women's at-large squad for District Two.

Yelinek, who graduated earlier this month with a degree in biology, posted a GPA of 3.99 while at Bloomsburg.

As a swimmer, Yelinek was a two-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) champion in the 1650-free and has also finished second and fifth in her career in the 1000-free. In winning this year's 1650-free event, Yelinek swam nearly six seconds faster than her seed time and also beat the runner-up in the event by more than six seconds.

For her efforts in the classroom, she was also named the 2006-07 Bloomsburg University Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

As a first team selection to the All-District team, Yelinek's name will now go on the national Academic All-American ballot for a chance to be named Academic All-American.

Sports covered in the women's at-large balloting include, women's bowling, women's crew, men's and women's fencing, women's field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's rifle, men's and women's skiing, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo and men's wrestling.
