Swimming Finishes Strong at PSAC Championships



MECHANICSBURG - Jeremy Frey (Pipersville/Central Bucks East) set another team record in the 200-back, while Tim Dorsch (Schwenksville/Souderton Area) also set a new team record in the 200-breast on Sunday, the final day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.

Frey lowered the 200-back record, originally set in 1993, to 1:54.25 for an NCAA "B" cut time and finished fifth in the event, while Dorsch lowered the 200-breast record, originally set in 2001, to 2:08.96 also an NCAA "B" cut time and finished fifth in his event as well.

Ben Safran (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) took third in the 200-fly with a time of 1:55.23, good enough for an NCAA "B" cut time. Safran also swam the second fastest time in school history in this event behind Hall of Famer Wayne Richards. David Mancinelli (Plymouth Meeting/Westmont Hilltop) finished seventh in the 100-free with a time of 47.68, making this time the sixth fastest ever in Bloomsburg history. The men's 400-free relay team of Mancinelli, Ryan Lightner (Lebanon/Cedar Crest), Mike Bierds (Malvern/West Chester East), and Derek Straub (Sinking Spring/Wilson) took sixth with a time of 3:11.55. Other personal best swims for the men included: Kyle Weisenbach (Lincoln University/Avon Grove) in the 200-breast with a time of 2:10.99 and Mike Busada (Bloomsburg/Columbia County Christian) also in the 200-breast with a time of 2:15.46.

For the women, Miranda Steel (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) qualified for an NCAA "B" cut time in the 1650-free with a time of 17:43.29. She took seventh overall and this swim put her in school's all-time top 10 performance list in the event. Allie Reed (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) also qualified for an NCAA "B" cut time in the 100-free finishing in 52.63. She took sixth overall and had the second fastest time ever at Bloomsburg in this event.

The women's 400-free relay team of Reed, Julia DeVincent (Maple Glen/Upper Dublin), Kayla Weisenbach (Lincoln University/Avon Grove), and Sarah Grawe (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) took eighth with a time of 3:36.05. Other lifetime best swims for the women included: Lisa Ferrigno (West Chester/Bishop Shanahan) in the 200-breast with a time of 2:29.92 and Kelsey Brooker (Stevens/Cocalico) in the 200-fly with a time of 2:21.62.

Overall, the women took seventh place with 242 points, while the men finished fifth with 380 points. Eight new team records were set over the weekend along with 17 NCAA "B" cut times and one conference champion. There were also 33 new additions to the Bloomsburg all-time top 10 performance list and 71 personal best performances. The women end their season with a record of 6-4, while the men were 4-3.
